5 Jun 2021 (Rescheduled) | Register Now >
It is important to prepare for any important journey. The journey to start a business and be an entrepreneur is a life changing one. As such, it is important that we are clear on WHY we are doing it. Participants will be assisted to clarify WHY they want to go into business.
Other pre-journey preparations can be grouped into the following areas: mental including Mindset, emotional, social, physical and finally, financial.
While all the above areas are important, adopting an Entrepreneurial Mindset is crucial. Mindsets are the outcome of our beliefs. Participants will be helped to identify and modify their beliefs that are inhibiting their ability to be a successful businessperson and be an entrepreneur.
This Module will explain the actions required and provide the participants with useful processes, tools and techniques (PTTs) that they can use in their pre-journey preparations.
MODULE 2 – Applying Lean Startup Methods and Testing Techniques
19 Jun 2021 (TBC) | Register Now >
The Lean Start-Up is an efficient and effective process of starting a new business. It challenges the traditional method of starting a business which is becomingly unsuitable for the current fast changing business environment.
It emphasises in undertaking the correct way of developing an idea into a viable business model using well tested PTTs. The systematic methodology emphasises testing and validating key assumptions and hypotheses regarding the key elements of a new business. In doing so, it helps wannabe business owners avoid the wasteful actions of doing the wrong things, the wrong way and at the wrong time.
Ultimately, the iterative Lean Startup approach with its emphasis on testing and validating assumptions will reduce the risks of failure and increase the probability of success of any new business startup. Carabetul methodology is based on the Lean Startup approach of starting a new business.
Participants will be exposed to the Lean Startup concept and be provided with the PTTs of how to conducts 'Tests' to validate the key business ideas.
MODULE 3 – Selecting Market Segments and Identifying Opportunities
3 Jul 2021 (TBC) | Register Now >
All business starts with an idea of how to solve a problem or satisfy a need of a selected market. Selecting which market segment to serve is a key decision point in the entrepreneurs' journey of discovery as no business can serve every market.
Having chosen the market segment, its important to decide which key customer jobs you want to serve. For the identified customer job, identify key outstanding problems to solve and which key underserved needs to fulfill. Developing the right product or solutions to solve selected problem and satisfy chosen need is the next step of the process. This will enable the new business to focus on the underserved niches of the market. Business riches are in the niches.
There are guides that can be employed to decide on which market to select and which opportunity to focus on. There are also ways on how to identify which opportunities to explore. It requires the use of the right PTTs which includes the employment of various testing techniques.
Participants will be exposed to various ways to identify the most promising market segment and the business opportunities it offers. They will be taught on how to conduct tests to validate if they are on the right path.
MODULE 4 – Generating and Selecting Business Ideas
17 Jul 2021 (TBC) | Register Now >
Business ideas are those initial thoughts or assumptions on how to create a product or service that can solve the problem or fulfill the need of a selected market segment. It can also include initial thoughts of how to create a business out of the idea - a business idea.
There are many ways of how to generate ideas or business ideas. The most used is Brainstorming. Carabetul prefer to use multiple methods of generating business ideas.
Business ideas need to focus on serving the selected market segment jobs, problems and needs. To be useful, they need to be so clear that it can be described in one single sentence describing the product, its market segment, the job the product is trying to serve and the benefits its offering to the users. It also needs to identify its key competition. Until they are validated, the description are assumption or hypotheses.
The Module will provide the participants with the PTTs on how to generate business ideas and the various tests that can be used to verify the value of the various ideas. The most popular tool for documenting an idea is the ‘Product Idea Ad-Lib' Template.
MODULE 5 – Developing Product Features and Value Propositions
31 Jul 2021 (TBC) | Register Now >
The developer of a product needs to be guided by the assumptions of the previous steps or by the outcomes of the various tests done during the journey to date. In designing the product, the developer needs to ensure that the product have features that will provide those benefits and values expected by the target customers in the market segment.
The Carabetul Lean Startup method is a good guide on how to move away from the traditional product development method to an iterative method which is very dynamic, and customer driven. It employs tests and experiments that help the startup to avoid wasting time and money developing a product that the market doesn’t want.
There are various measures that can be undertaken to ensure that the promised benefits and proposed values met the expectation of the target market. Carabetul will provide participants with the PTTs that can assist the product developers to achieve that goal. The most effective tool is the ‘Value Proposition Canvas’ (VPC) developed by Strategyzer.
MODULE 6 – Creating and Validating Business Models and Execution Plan
14 Aug 2021 (TBC) | Register Now >
A Business Model is a summarized version of how a business operates and makes money. It is a pre-cursor to an Execution Plan.
The Business Model Canvas (BMC) is a tool to capture key elements of a business in how it is creating and, delivering values and capturing values in return. There are nine building blocks in the BMC.
It captures the key elements of a business starting with the product or benefits or value it is proposing to the market it is targeting, how the business is interacting with its customers and the expected revenue streams. On the back end of the business, the BMC indicate the resources it is using to undertake all its business activities plus the partners the business is collaborating with. It also indicates its cost structure.
The Business Model is outcome of the Exploration and Discovery Phase of the Entrepreneur Journey. The BMC serves many benefits such as helping a startup to structure its business idea visually on one page. It is fast to complete, as one can start by just capturing assumptions for future testing and verifications. It provides a holistic view of the business and provides a central document for discussions and reference. Its temporary nature (until it is fully verified) allow for easy and quick updates and iterations.
The BMC is not intended to replace the traditional Business Plan. It is a precursor to the old Business Plan and is used to overcome critical weaknesses of using the Business Plan as a key tool in starting a business. Instead of creating a Business Plan, Carabetul employ the use of a validated Business Model to create an Execution Plan.
Module 6 will provide participants with the PTTs of how to create and validate a Business Model using the BMC and the various testing techniques.
